Free 80s Outdoor Concert in Toronto!

June 15, 2009 14:59 by Christopher

Direct from the Regeneration tour website

The latest addition to the tour schedule is a huge free outdoor show in Toronto on June 28th as part of the Toronto Pride Week 2009. ABC starring Martin Fry, Wang Chung, Heaven 17 and Cutting Crew will perform from 4pm-7pm on the Wellesley Stage, located at Wellesley Street and Maitland Terrace.

This might be one of the only shows that Heaven 17 will be attending. Seems they are pulling out of the tour.

"due to “financial considerations” related to “unanticipated costs” and an “unfavorable exchange” rate that has tipped out of their favor over the past 5 months since they agreed to do the tour. On the shows where Berlin are appearing the shows will remain as a 4 band show. On the shows where Berlin are not appearing we are working to replace H17 with another act. Stay tuned!"

Sweet Review

June 8, 2009 10:48 by Christopher

My friend Kathy was kind enough to send me a review of the recent Sweet concert she attended.

"This concert review is well over a month overdue.  It is a review of the band Sweet--yes, Sweet.  Ah, the days of singing "Little Willie" to the AM radio on my parents really big console TV/stereo system.  On a good night I could pick up WABC out of NYC and they played the best music!
Sweet was the held-lining act for the birthday bash for a radio station in Scranton called Rock 107. The party was in a hall that usually hosts wedding receptions and it was all free!! Back in the day (high school, early 80's) you were really cool if you had a Rock 107 bumper sticker or license plate on your car.  I know I am still cool because I still have a "bug-free" Rock 107 plate in my possession! It never saw the front of my car, just the wall of my bedroom  Anyway, back to the band.  I had to ask myself "Is this live or is it Memorex?", that's how good Sweet sounded.  Yes, we remember "Little Willie", "Ballroom Blitz", "Fox on the Run" and my least favorite "Love is Like Oxygen" which also sounded excellent! But for the hard-core Sweet fans they played all their not so popular hits like "Wig-Wam Bam", "Sixties Man" and my husband's favorite "Blockbuster." I can't name any members of Sweet and I couldn't back in the day either but I think they said that they were all the original members, but it doesn't matter, they totally rocked and I would definitely see them again!

The next two concerts we are attending are Three Dog Night and Huey Lewis and the News.  Hopefully, I won't wait sooooo looooong to review them.

Rock on!  Kathy"

Duran Duran on tour supporting Red Carpet Massacare

November 20, 2008 21:53 by Christopher
Check out Duran Duran's website to find out the next stop on the tour.

"Amazon.com
It happens only two tracks in: Just when you're re-acquainting yourself with Simon Le Bon's sexy whine and settling in for a disc full of digestible, modernized new wave, Red Carpet Massacre takes a turn toward the Timberlake-like. By the time you reach track eight, the sizzling instrumental "Tricked Out," the effect is so pronounced you can't be sure whose chocolate got into whose peanut butter. But you do know this, and with more certainty than you once placed in the power of the "Hungry Like the Wolf" video to get you through your teen-age day: Massacre is one hot record. Timbaland, the brilliant knob-twister behind Timberlake's FutureSex/Love Sounds, as well as his protegé, Danja, imbue it with buoyancy and way-past-midnight moodiness; on a couple of tracks, most notably "Skin Divers," which includes a short rap verse, Timbaland pitches in on vocals, and on a couple of others, he taps Timberlake to help out. That the contributions of that tag-team of hitmakers take nothing away from the tightness and characteristic chic of the band--that they enhance the hypnotic sheen of Duran Duran, rather than subjugate it--makes a certain sense. After all, if Timberlake brought sexy back, it had probably only been missing since Duran Duran's mid-80s heyday. --Tammy La Gorce "
